Inspired by its long‑standing motto “Only the best is good enough”, the LEGO Group today publishes its first Sustainability ReportThe LEGO Group has always had close links with the wider community and those stakeholders who surround the GroupBut in publishing its Sustainability Report the LEGO Group wishes – both internally and externally – to document progress already made and the challenges to be faced in the future“Only the best is good enough, we sayAnd publication of our sustainability report reflects the fact that as a company we shall be focusing even more sharply on those stakeholders with whom we already co‑operate closely in our day‑to‑day work," says Christian Iversen, Executive Vice President, Corporate Centre.

The report highlights relations with consumers, customers, employees, business partners, suppliers and the community at large. In examining relations with these six stakeholder groups, the sustainability report concludes that:

  • The LEGO Group manufactured more bricks in 2006 than at any other time in its history. This fact – plus transition of production to external partners stresses the need for stringent quality control.

  • The LEGO Group has successfully pursued a closer dialogue with its retail customers by drawing up joint plans for the next few years’ development – though 2006 surpassed the expectations of both the company and its customers.

  • The LEGO Group intends focusing even more intensely on employees’ job satisfaction after years of major financial and production issues.

  • With its comprehensive agreement on relocation of production, the LEGO Group is even more aware that conditions prevailing among its suppliers must conform with the LEGO Group’s own standards.

  • It remains the aim of the LEGO Group to be a responsible, trustworthy member of those communities in which it conducts its business activities – in keeping with the principles of the UN Global Compact. For example, by maintaining a policy of prompt, transparent and frank communication.

Christian Iversen: “It’s our definite ambition to publish an annual Sustainability Report. Our membership of the Global Compact and the ongoing work on our Code of Conduct are examples of the importance we attach to being a sustainable company. Our Sustainability Report is tangible evidence of our initiatives and results in this field. But this overview also shows that we have to overcome many challenges before we can claim to have a fully sustainable business in relation to all our stakeholders.”
