More than 900 children from thirty countries will compete at the FIRST LEGO® League (FLL) Open European Championship in Norway May 16 through 21.
In 2006 more than 80,000 children took part in the competition in forty countries around the world. The winners from all these national competitions have been invited to Bodoe, Norway to participate in the finals. Singapore, China, US, Netherlands, Sweden and Russia are some of the nations represented. Use this link to see the
full list of participants.
The competition consists of two different tasks: A practical task building and programming a LEGO MINDSTORMS® robot to solve a series of “missions” on an obstacle course related to the challenge topic. And a theoretical task researching the challenge topic and preparing and sharing a presentation. In the 2006/2007 season, of which this is the culmination, FLL teams have been exploring nanotechnology.
The competitions themselves will take place Saturday and Sunday, the latter day ending with an award ceremony where the winning team will receive a LEGO trophy. Use this link to see the
full program.
The FLL Open European Championship in Norway is only the second of its kind. The first ever Open European Championship took place in Eindhoven, Netherlands, in 2006.
