LEGO Bride and Groom say ‘I Do’ at Westminster Abbey
To celebrate the Royal nuptials of Prince William and his bride, Kate Middleton, four Adult Fans of LEGO have built a giant scale replica model of a wedding ceremony at Westminster Abbey, featuring a whopping 180,000 bricks and a congregation of nearly 400 LEGO minifigures.
The impressive 1 x 2.5m model took the four builders, all members of the Brickish Assocation, eight weeks to construct. Weighing in at over 60kg it features 200 different LEGO elements, including nearly 1,000 arches. All of the windows are built from transparent bricks, representing the spectacular stained glass at the Abbey, and special bride and groom minifigures have been created from exclusive prototype elements at LEGO HQ in Billund, Denmark.
Apart from these two minifigures, every single element is from a LEGO set in production.
The structure will be unveiled at the AFOL Convention on Thursday 28th April at the Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI) in Manchester. Following the convention, the LEGO structure will be going on Royal Tour taking in Denmark, Holland and several locations across the UK.
