About the LEGO Foundation

The LEGO Foundation was established in 1986 and bases all its activities on the belief that every child has the right to play and learn. It owns 25% of the LEGO Group through its investment company.

Through product donations, funding and educational support combined with teacher training and research programs, the LEGO Foundation makes LEGO products accessible and applicable for children around the world regardless of social status. Fostering the ability to build core competencies using systematic creativity, logic and reasoning along with playfulness and imagination, the goal is to create a positive impact by inspiring and developing children and youth to become active citizens – and to empower them to create their own future - through fun, creativity and high quality learning.

In 2011, the LEGO Foundation reached out to 600,000 children in 78 countries on five continents. The total value of donations from the LEGO Foundation in 2011 was DKK 46 million in product donation and DKK 29 million in financial support. It is the LEGO Foundation’s target to reach out to one million children in 2015.
