In the LEGO Group we want to leave a positive impact on the environment. Focus is on resources as well as greenhouse gas emissions as we see this having vital importance for future environmental demands. In the LEGO Group we are day on day working to ensure that we prepare our business to deliver on these requirements.
Our ultimate long-term goal is zero waste in order to re-use nature’s resources. Our starting point to minimize the waste potential have for decades been focused on long durability and unique compatibility.
Moreover we seek to create more environmentally friendly products and reducing the waste generated internally. Also in 2010 we focused on initiatives to recycle waste in the LEGO Group , and we exceeded our target to recycle 80% of our internal waste, with a recycling rate of 88%.
All production sites in the LEGO Group are certified according to the ISO 14001 standard, and the primary step started back in 2007.
We have only taken the fist small steps on a long journey towards more sustainable products and product design. Product design is one of the keys to meeting environmental challenges, because design and material choices have a high impact on the environment seen in a value chain perspective.
